How To Get Involved

Find your local #AppleDonor Station!

Good news for all our East London friends, whilst we no longer have our old site in Forest Gate, you can now donate your apples at THE DUKE Pub in Wanstead! Visit the pub in opening hours and you can donate in exactly the same way, and receive one bottle of Urban Orchard for every 3kgs of apples!

THE DUKE, 79 NIGHTINGALE LANE. WANSTEAD, E11 2EY

Check out our MAP below to find out your nearest donor point!

HOW DOES IT WORK?

You give us apples and we’ll give you cider in return. Deal?

WHAT DO I GET IF I DONATE AND IS THERE A MINIMUM AMOUNT?

We’ll never turn a good apple down, but if you want cider in return you’ll need a minimum of 3kg. We weigh your apples when you bring them to us. We call this your ‘dry weight’.

To make it simple and easy, we give you back one bottle of Urban Orchard for every full 3kg of apples you donate. For example, 9kg of apples donated of apples donated would be 3 bottles of Urnban Orchard cider, ready to take away!

HOW DO I KNOW THE APPLES ARE RIPE?

Most varieties are ready when they come away from the tree with a simple twist of the stalk and one of the best ways to strip your tree is to give it a really good shake on the day you want to pick and bring your fruit to us. If you still aren’t sure, there is some handy advice here.

DO YOU TAKE FALLEN OR BRUISED FRUIT?

We love any apple and a few bruises are fine... but not the rotten ones! If there are some you’re not sure about, please hand them to us separately but as a rule, if you wouldn’t eat it yourself, it probably won’t be right for us.

WILL YOU COLLECT MY APPLES OR CAN I BRING MY APPLES TO YOU?

We would prefer you to bring us your apples when they are ripe and ready. However, if you have collected so many that you are unable to transport them, give us a call and we will see what we can do!

CAN YOU PRUNE MY TREES FOR ME?

Sorry, we’re too busy making cider! Although if you ask nicely, we may be able to put you in touch with someone…

WHAT IS AN APPLE DONOR STATION?

If you are a community garden, social enterprise, allotment, or any kind of organisation, then you can host your very own Apple Donor Station day, and we will help you raise funds for your own project in return for any apples collected!

HOW DOES IT WORK?

First, you as a group will choose a convenient date for your Apple Donor Station day, then we’ll give you everything you need to stage and promote the event, from flyers and posters to leaflets. We leave it to you to run your own event, and encourage your local community to donate some delicious apples.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

A couple of days later, we’ll arrive to collect and weigh your apples. Now for the best bit. We will pay you for the apples at 20% above market rate using our Fairtrade model, meaning that your community group receives a fundraising donation to use in whatever way you wish. We love being able to give back to the very community who is helping us to grow, and you will one day be able to taste your own apples in our cider!
